Video Diary /Evaluation

WEEK 1

– In This video I explain the inspiration of my project, my reason why I wanted to shoot my film in the way Terrence Malick has shot his previous films.

-Also i explain the style in which unfolds his stories to his audience how it could personally benefit my development as an auteur.

– I explain the development of my research what I will have to practice and experiment on to gain a more personal understanding to way The director chooses to tell his story.

– Explained our strengths and weaknesses

– How It will help us and how we could improve our weaknesses

– Talked about ideas on experiments and research

Here is a little example of Lars Von Trier – Melancholia

Opening Sequence.

With the art of slow downed scenes it allows the audience to consume the surroundings, embrace the emotion placed on display. The reason i chose this scene in-particular is because of the use of music brings out a different type of visual that people can’t see. The white noise settles our minds and brings up to a peaceful place, The cinematography of each shot was well thought out and executed perfectly, the use of lighting brought out the nature colours that normally are hidden in the shot.

WEEK 2

– After going to the BFI Film Festival to watch GBF I came to understand how the world of film a little bit more in depth.

– Went to Tate modern museum for inspiration

– I finished my research,

– We had a class discussion about inspiration which led me to create a Pintrest I think it personally allowed me to see things in a new light.

– Began to note down the type of experiments I wanted to do during the Easter break

WEEK 3

Put

– I explain During my Easter holiday break I went to various location to film from natures perspective.

– I went out to conduct experiments for my project, i thought of the footage i wanted to catch and the type of atmosphere i wanted to create for my final project but also the soundtrack.

– It helped that i was given time to search for a contemporary melody that will complete my final project. also how it would benefit my project, I needed to give myself enough time to really mold my project together.

– I explained the results of my experiments and as I got feedback i would alter what needed to be changed.

This week i was lucky enough to find my actress and start filming, hopefully i could get it all done before the week is over. Meaning i will have to film everyday of the week.

WEEK 4

– I started experimenting on logic pro with different sounds to add to my FMP I found it quite hard since making a soundtrack from scratch is not my strong suit.

– I also took an interest into contemporary music trying to understand how without it my film could have not jelled together in the way I needed it to.

WEEK 5

I was given a website that allows you to download free music so its made things easier for me and also it has given me more time to finalize my edits and research and get feedback.

I went out today looking for inspiration

WEEK 6

WEEK 7

Started to go over and check my research thoroughly making sure I haven’t missed anything out and made sure my research was relevant to my project.

WEEK 8

Finalized Edit of film and found a piano melody to go with my film

EVALUATION

Since The beginning of this project I’ve felt more comfortable than I ever did before in the two previous projects, I feel that even though I had the foundation of my idea I always knew personally I would have to do a lot more to get to the finish line and be satisfied at what I achieved. I feel knowingly that I had to apply more pressure to myself and concentration to get to a place mentally where I’m solely focused on bettering myself and really finding deep within my style of film. I had to find that state of mind where i had to express and explore what personal style naturally suits my persona.  I feel that “Fear” turned out surprisingly to be my biggest motivation, naturally apply pressure comes with personal flaws that lead me astray from the matter at hand but this time around I took time out to concentrate on picturing myself in a better place it only allowed me to aim for the success of my final project.

I enjoyed the research aspect of this project because since I had entire control of the boundaries set of the topic I’ve already had ideas about who i would research, why and what it could do for my project, how it will benefit me personally and how i could show that in my final showcase. It also gave me the freedom to approach a different style of speech performance that I’ve never had the opportunity to comprehend before. There was a moment during the research part of the task i felt quite challenging because i could have easily been mislead from the idea that originally lead to the original development to begin with. My Poem “Oh How I Never Learn” was kind of a spur of the moment phenomenon which surprising turned out to be the main venture despite Another poem being favored in its place. What I’d hope is that I’ll be able to connect to people willing to listen to the distasteful truth about enduring a broken heart, not being able to comprehend endless thoughts and utter darkness erupting within. It was imperative that the nature of the experiments consisted with style of Terrence Malick I analyzed and tried to match up my experiments with his e.g The Building Footage, The Tree Footage both that play big parts In his contemporary way of film-making In total I conducted 8 Experiments that was broken up into sub-categories that would benefit the development of the film. Practical, Color Correction and audio, The practical side of things consisted of footage related to walking through trees and showing the sun through them which was used in “Tree Of Life” and also walking along side of mirror glass buildings which was also used in a sequence during “Tree Of Life”. And a close up shot, Still’s and footage so I i could allow the audience to analyze and read her emotions. Color Correction to give my film a greyish out of balanced tone which I felt was a better option than an overexposed light tone which led my actress to look orange. I did two audio experiments with two different voices to match up which voice matched the style of my poem.

In conclusion I feel personally that I’ve recognized the type of filmmaker I aspire to be which will allow me to grow and convalesce my strengths, Identify my weaknesses and the importance of thorough research which will only add to the benefit of a successful project. Overall I feel that I’m satisfied with the outcome of my even when weighting up my mistakes with my successes I feel more concentration nearing the end of the term could have benefited me because of the attempt of late added footage crumbled. Furthermore I feel for future projects I’ll need to better myself mentally which will
